I have an Indian cookbook and I have had Indian food in an Indian restaurant but it can get expensive. I want to know how to make my own at home but not have to go through the arduous process of all the prep that goes into it. Any suggestions? Thank you.How can one make making Indian food easier?
That's easy, you cheat! Buy premade spice mixtures and sauces at the Indian stores. Parampara makes great masalas for Punjabi style food and MTR for South Indian food.
Cook extra rice and extra daal. Use frozen paneer and many Indian veggies now come frozen also.
No shame in taking shortcuts. Make some great biryani and chicken curry on the wknds and freeze it. Also works with veg dishes. How can one make making Indian food easier?
Depends entirely on the recipe! Sort through your favorites and look for ways to make those easier and less expensive.
If you get a good curry mix, it can make it easier. Also, stock up on cans of coconut milk.
One of my favorite Indian foods is the potato and vegetable mixture, whether with cauliflower, eggplant, squash, etc.
Saute potatoes, add any other vegetable and a small amount of curry powder and a bit of coconut milk to moisten. (you can divide the coconut milk by putting into an ice cube tray. Once it is frozen, pop the cubes out an put into a zip loc bag in the freezer, Take out only what is needed). Cook until the other vegetable is tender, adjust seasonings as needed. Serve with rice.
Chicken... marinate in yogurt overnight, roast with seasonings to approximate tandoori chicken.
Rice... cook regular rice, toss in a handful of small frozen peas before serving. The steam from the rice will slightly cook them. If you like more seasoned rice, add a bit of curry powder to the water.
Desserts... make rice pudding (kheer) from a standard recipe. Add some chopped raisins and a few crushed pistachio nuts.
Bread... Indian bread (naan) is very good. Substitute some lavash (found in most large grocery stores) or even flour tortillas. Lighly moisten, heat in microwave a few seconds. Lightly spread with butter.
One option is to buy ready to eat food packets so easily available.
The other is to try to use microwave. I have done so often

I would ask an indian friend or find a good website that gives you easy and clear recipes or try pakistani they a bit close only i prefer pakistani food it's not as spicy nor full of food coloring ..ughh anyway here a website i use from time to time..good luck
There are varieties of indian food .The homemade is always different from what you eat in restaurants.I always prefer homemade food beacuse its less fat compared to restaurant's one. There are varities of curries, desserts, breads, rice variety etc etc.U must have patience and minimum arrangements to cook any indian variety.
Put it in an air sickness bag and eliminate the middleman, my opinion and that goes for Palistani food too/
I'd rather eat raw fish heads, but if you want to take the chance of a viral or bacterial slow painful death Indian or Pakistani food id the way to go.
You could always try some mexiican pond water.
I speak from experience. I was in a UPMC Hospital's Infectious Disease ward and found myself rising to the light becaus of an Indian Practioner.
I'm sure that was a hallucination, no prejudice intended.
Go with caution but when food smells like feet, well I will stop now
Vaya con Dios
