How do you make a camo pattern when making polymer clay hearts?

I'm making little camo hearts for a group I'm in of wives of Marines, and I can't figure out how I'd make a camo pattern out of the clay, and can't find instructions on how to do it online... Any ideas? How do you make a camo pattern when making polymer clay hearts?
Take green, brown, black and a little bit of white clay. Roll out each color and cut long squares. Create a checker board pattern. For example: the first row will have the brown, black, green and white squares all next to each othere. The second row - do it backwards - put a white square on top of the brown, green on top of black and so on. The third row is the same as the first, the 4th row the same as the 2nd. When you have this done hold the square at anangle so it looks like a diamond shape. Flatten the points of the diamond toward the center. Roll it out. Fold it in half and roll it out again. It should be exactly what you want. How do you make a camo pattern when making polymer clay hearts?
Make the hearts out of the clay. Let it dry and then use green black and brown spray paint. When using the spray paint, use quick bursts to paint circular blobs. Alternate the colors until most of the heart is painted. Go back through and fill in any gaps with colors that seem to be lacking in the area. It is okay if some of the paint over laps. Practice on some paper to determine how far you need to hold the can away from the paper.
