Making garage a game room. What is the best type of floor to put down?

I am looking for something durable, yet comfortable, as kids will be playing in there a lot. Also looking for a good insulator for under the garage door. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!Making garage a game room. What is the best type of floor to put down?

Indoor/outdoor padded carpeting - can handle anything the kids dish out. The garage door can be insulated like a metal shop building. Home Centers sell a screened poly coated insulation in different sizes that you can attach to the door leaving an overhang at the bottom of the door to keep out drafts. I would first build a lightweight wood frame for the door, then attached those precut insulating pads and then tack on a thin indoor/outdoor non pad carpeting on top of the insulation. Easy to clean and kids can bounce things off of it.
I would go with wood or tile with area rugs.
I would do that foam floor, I know you can get it at Lowe's and Sam's Club, it goes together like a puzzle, different colors. I think that would look neat, I'm actually thinking of putting that in my basement ';toy room'; for my daughter. Good Luck:)
put carpet in there. Shag Carpet. Better yet, Red. Yeah, that would be DOPE!!!!
Funny that I should be reading this one today. I went to home depot yesterday to look for flooring. They showed me wood flooring that is not real wood. no glue needed. you can cut it with a blade. each side has a very sticky residue that you stick the other pieces to. The advertising in the store says that it's water proof and warm to the foot. It is new to home depot. It looks and feels just like hard wood. the box is $40. the box does about 24 square feet. It just lays on the floor (sort of like floating), it does not slide or move. A female can lay the floor down by herself in about 1-2 hours. sorry can't think of the name. If you need more info, I will try to check back here to see if you posted additional info that you need from me. try homedepot.com. not sure if they have it online, but they have it in the store.
It would depend somewhat on your location and climate, and what surface is already there !!

My Brother has a former goat-ranch, and we took his garage and the old slaughter-house and upgraded it. We simply cleaned and painted the garage floor with an epoxy paint/sealant. In the old slaughter-house which we were converting to an office / guest room... we put down a radiant-heat system, and then laid down a wood floor.

He has alot of dirt/dust and the winter weather is HARSH... the radiant-heat is wonderful... and the sealed wood and concrete make cleaning simple.

With kids playing, I'd go sealed concrete or wood with area rugs for cushioning.

For the Garage door... any home-supply store should have weather stripping and appropriate insulation for the type of door. His was a rolling door, pre-insulated... we just added a good seal at the base.
