What would make my dryer stop making heat?

My clothes dryer suddenly stopped making heat. Other than the no heat thing it is working fine.

Do heating elements go out often? Are they easy to replace?

I fixed my dryer last year. You can order the part online. You should enter the make and model of your dryer to see if you can get specific instructions. Without those, you wouldn't be able to do it. Then you can do it yourself.

This is the website I used:

Or if you don't want to buy a new one go on craigslist or the newspaper for people getting rid of their dryers.

Good Luck! What would make my dryer stop making heat?
Our dryer went out too a while ago. I called the repair man to see how much it would be for him to come out to replace the heating element and he said $65 for the house call $20 for labor and $45 for the part. That's $130.00!!! So we found a friend that had an extra one lying around and he gave it to us. I would recommend buying a new one if you can or buying a used one! You could try replacing it yourself, but if your not a dryer repairman you're not going to know for sure if it is the heating element, it could be something else, then you just wasted your money!

ALSO if you get a new one make SURE it has the same plug as your outlet, otherwise you'll have to change the cord, it's not hard, it's just something else you'll have to do!
Heating elements die all the time, and that's probably what happened. It's fixable, but ... how old is the dryer?

If it's new enough to still be under warranty, it should be repaired for free.

If it's older than that, it probably isn't worth the cost of the service call and the part ... usually best to get a new dryer. (Dryers are pretty cheap).
Check the exhaust vent, piping and so on, make sure it's all clear. If it clogs, the dryer will still turn but may shut off the heat as a safety measure. And it doesn't cost a thing to check.
Yes, the heating elements have probably burnt out and they can replace fairly easily.
gas or electric?
