How do you make the seaweed less chewy when making California Rolls?

What are you supposed to do to make it less chewy? Steam the sheets before making sushi? You can't even bite through the stuff I bought. What am I doing wrong? How do you make the seaweed less chewy when making California Rolls?
Make sure the seaweed is labeled ';Maki-Nori'; or in any way says that it's toasted.

Just sheets of plain seaweed are way, way too chewy.

If it isn't toasted, grab a pair of tongs and really lightly firm it up on the range flame. How do you make the seaweed less chewy when making California Rolls?
