If making part of a cake using ready made icing, how do you store it until use?

I live in tropical weather - does it have to go in the fridge or stay out in an airconditioned room?If making part of a cake using ready made icing, how do you store it until use?
You have to put the icing in the fridge, however once you take it out, it can stay out for a couple of hours.

DONT take the icing out for a bit and put it back in for a bit. You must keep it in the fridge until you are generally ready to put it on the cake.If making part of a cake using ready made icing, how do you store it until use?
It would be better in the fridge, otherwise it tends to get sticky.
